As we near the end of 2019, we would like to thank all of our investors, friends, and clients for your incredible support for allowing us to reach new milestones. This year, in lieu of sending holiday gifts to everyone, the Backcast team has proudly elected to make a meaningful donation to a transcending charity supporting our veterans, and one which we care dearly about. The Headstrong Foundation (www.getheadstrong.org) is an effort that Backcast’s David Petrucco founded 7 years ago with two of his friends when they recognized that our returning troops were suffering severely from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and that over 20 veterans a day were taking their own lives. The key to Headstrong’s proven success is multifaceted but starts with its partnership with the trauma physicians and clinicians at Weil Cornell Medicine, one of the nation’s leading mental health care centers. Headstrong delivers effective, individually tailored and comprehensive treatment for PTSD and related military traumas. Importantly, these treatments are provided free of cost, stigma (nothing is entered on a service man or service woman’s permanent record) and bureaucracy (patients are generally responded to within 24 to 48 hours after reaching out). The level of success Headstrong has experienced to date has been quantifiable and has positioned it to be what we believe is the best trauma treatment program in existence for our veterans. From inception 7 years ago, Headstrong has now treated over 1,500 veterans, provided over 40,000 clinical sessions and currently has 800 veterans receiving treatment across the country. The program is incredibly cost effective, with treatment typically lasting 5-7 months and costing approximately $7,000 (although veterans are welcome to stay in treatment as long as they need to). Headstrong is leading the way in developing the type of public/private partnership with institutions like the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs that may provide better alternatives for the many needs of our veteran communities.
